Clinical Sciences

Emphasis will be placed on correlation of instructions to general objectives, self learning and active participation of the students. Students will be exposed to common health problems of the community and will spend more time in clinics and hospital and will be involved in the day-to-day management of patients.

Medicine: Department of Medicine is headed by Prof. M. Naseem Ullah, who brings vast and rich experience of teaching at under-graduate level. Being the ex-principal and Head of Department of Rawalpindi Medical College, he guides the department of Medicine at IMDC to perform at its best. Medicine is one of the most important branches of medical scienes. In the last 50 years, medicine has provided unique opportunities for cure and control of disease aroud the globe. There is a continous process of research and upgration of medical support to ailing humanity and there is a continuous stride to improve it.

Surgery: Surgical Department is headed by Prof. M. Iqbal. The faculty comprises of experienced teaching staff capable of implementing instructional strategies and curriculum with modern principles and concepts. The surgical department offers integrated teaching and learning programe from its inception. Students are introduced to organ based learning right from the begining. The departmental, hospital and college libraries are equipped with reference and text books.

Periodontology: Periodontology is that speciality of dentistry which encompasses the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of diseases affecting the supporting and surrounding tissues of the teeth or their subsititutes. Maintenance of health, function and esthetics of supporting structures of teeth and teeth like structures is also a concern of this department.

The clinical training in the department of periodonotology is carried out in the 3rd year of undergraduate study. The students are trained to perform procedures like scaling, curettage, root planning, and polishing. The students are also introduced to the more advanced periodontal surgical procedures like gingivectomy, gingivoplasty, and flap surgery.

Prosthodontics: Prosthodontics is the specially of dentistry pertaining to the restoration & maintenance of oral function, comfort, appearance & health of the patient by the restoration of natural teeth and / or replacement of missing teeth & craniofacial tissue with artificial substitures.

Orthodontics: Orthodontics is the specially of dentistry which includes the diagnosis, prevention, interception, guidance, and correction of malocclusions, which may be a result of tooth irregularity, disproportionate jaw relationships, or both.

The Department Orthodontics is actively involved in all the major areas of academic activities, teaching, research, service and patient care programs. The department is involved in didactic and clinical teaching of orthodontics in the undergraduate program.

Operative Dentistry: Operative Dentistry is one of the branches of dentistry that deals with the art and science of the diagnosis, prevention, treatment, and prognosis of diseases or trauma to teeth.

The Department of Operative Dentistry provides superior quality didactic and clinical training to undergraduate students. The department supports the overall goals of the institution through teaching, research abd patient care.

Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery: The department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery offers a comprehensive service relating to conditions of the face, mouth and jaws, including a routine assessment and treatment service for commom oral surgical conditions such as routine tooth extractions, impacted tooth surgery, pre-prosthetic surgery, orofacial pain, diagnosis and treatment of oral disease and odontogenic infections, surgical treatment of cysts and tumors of the jaws, management of tempormandibular joint diseases and treatment of trauma cases. Operations requiring general anesthesia are carried out at Ahmad Medical Complex.

The clinical training of the subject is imparted in 3rd and final year of undergraduate course. At the completion of the degree program the dental graduates are expected to have competency to perform simple and surgical tooth removal, diagnose common oral pathologies of mouth and jaws and provide emergency services in trauma cases.

Oral Diagnosis and Radiology: The department is responsible for screening and filtering patients for acceptance into undergraduate and graduate programs. The department of OraL Dignosis and Radiology is also responsible for comprehensively educating dental students in the art & science of diagnosis and treatment planning. The students are presented with numerous learning opportunities. Students learn radiographic and imaging techniques commonly used is dental practice and the evaluation and interpretation of the radiographic findings of these techniques.
